The Therapist Incubator

Business Support for Therapists Building Private Practices

You trained for years to become a therapist. Nobody trained you to run a business.

But you already know how to think like a therapist.

What if you brought that thinking into your business?

The Therapist Incubator is a small-group business coaching and collaborative learning program for therapists who want practical support building, growing, and managing a private practice.

Therapists spend years learning how to listen, notice patterns, stay curious, ask better questions, and sit with uncertainty.

Then we open a private practice and somehow expect ourselves to immediately know how to run a business.

The Therapist Incubator was created to bridge those two worlds.

This isn't a course telling you there is one right way to build a practice. It's a place to bring the questions you're actually wrestling with, learn the practical pieces of running a business, hear how other clinicians are approaching similar decisions, and use the skills you already have as a therapist to think more intentionally about your practice.

Whether you're starting a private practice, growing one, or realizing that some of your existing systems aren't working anymore, you don't have to figure every piece out by yourself.

A Different Approach to Private Practice Business Support

Why I Created The Therapist Incubator

Therapy wasn't my first career.

Before becoming an LMFT and private practice owner, I spent more than 20 years working in corporate and commercial real estate.

Those two careers taught me something interesting: many of the skills that make us effective therapists are incredibly useful in business. We just don't always recognize them that way.

I created the Therapist Incubator because clinicians shouldn't have to abandon the way they naturally think in order to become business owners.

There are practical things to learn, absolutely. But there is also tremendous value in slowing down, asking better questions, noticing patterns, considering the larger system, and figuring out what actually fits the practice you're trying to build.

The Incubator is where those two worlds meet.

Business Coaching and Support for Therapists

THE ROOM

Twice each month, we meet for 90 minutes in a small group navigating the realities of private practice.

Bring the questions you're actually dealing with. Hear what other clinicians are trying. Talk through options. Get curious about what isn't working. And sometimes discover that the thing you thought needed fixing may not actually be the problem.

THE THINKING

Running a business requires decisions, but good decisions don't always come from having more information.

The Incubator encourages you to use skills you already have: curiosity, pattern recognition, thoughtful questioning, systems thinking, and the ability to slow down before jumping to a solution.

The goal isn't for me to tell you how your practice should operate. It's to help you become more confident thinking through those decisions yourself.

THE RESOURCES

The conversations don't disappear when the meeting ends.

We're building a growing library of practical working resources based on the issues we're actually discussing in the Incubator. That may include comparison guides, checklists, sample language, working documents, decision-making tools, and curated resources.

Not a binder of generic templates. A working library designed around the real questions that come with running a practice.

Business Topics Tailored for Private Practice

The Therapist Incubator is designed as an ongoing program rather than a semester-based course. Incubator groups are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 10 clinicians per group.

Incubator conversations include:

  • Practice foundations and business structure

  • Fees, finances, bookkeeping and taxes

  • Policies, paperwork and compliance

  • EHRs, platforms and practice technology

  • Insurance, private pay and out-of-network options

  • Directories, websites, SEO and practice visibility

  • Ethical marketing and referral-building

  • AI and emerging tools for practice owners

  • Systems, operations and workflow

  • And the unexpected business questions that inevitably come up along the way

The agenda isn't built around teaching business for the sake of teaching business. We focus on the decisions therapists are actually trying to make.

At the end of 6 months, a typical Incubator member…

Feels less overwhelmed by the business side of private practice and more confident in the choices they are making.

Has a clearer sense of the kind of practice they want to build and have begun putting the policies, systems, finances, and other pieces in place to support it.

Rather than constantly wondering, "Am I doing this right?" or comparing their practice to what everyone else is doing, they have a better sense of what works for them and why.

Feels less like their business is something they are trying to figure out alone.

Who is the Incubator For?

You might be a good fit if...

You're a therapist who:

  • Keeps wondering how everyone else seems to know things you were never taught

  • Wants to make thoughtful decisions rather than simply copy what other practice owners are doing

  • Values hearing multiple perspectives before deciding what works for you

  • Wants practical resources without another enormous course to complete

  • Misses having colleagues to think with now that you're working independently

  • Has a practice but still feels uncertain about the business side, or may have just started

You don't need to be “good at business” before you join. That's rather the point.
